Twitter Personalities (3/25)

This week, I examined many tweets crafted by various composers that attempted to convey their respective brands. I followed many well-known music artists and film directors and analyzed how they utilized Twitter to promote their works. A few of the artists and directors that I followed were Ed Sheeran, Stephen Chbosky, Migos, Lil Yachty, and John Francis Daley. All of these composers have unique brands that are conveyed through their tweets.

Migos is a famous rap group composed of three artists named "Quavo", "Off-Set", and "Take-off" who meet each other in Atlanta, Georgia. They are known for their unique rapping capabilities and fluidity while performing. A common theme that they choose to portray through rap is how they successfully "made something out of nothing" indicating that they all derived from poverty but were turned their life around with music. Their goal is to produce music conveying their culture and brand as authentic hip-hop artists. This group utilizes Twitter to express this brand and their personality by constantly tweeting about upcoming songs, albums, and tours that they are working on. They recently posted an image of their latest album "Culture II" which is advertised to feature other famous hip-hop artists from this era. Also, they portray their brand as authentic rap artists by constantly tweeting clever rap phrases that prove their sharp capabilities of creating rap. Lastly, this group recently developed a music video for their new song "Walk It Like I Talk It" which depicted them in colorful and funky outfits which created a time-hop allusion that portrayed common fashion from the 70's. Overall, this specific rap group uses Twitter as a major social medium to advertise and convey their brand as an authentic hip-hop group of this day.

Stephen Chbosky is a famous film director and author who also utilizes Twitter to express his unique brand. He was the director of the latest film "Wonder" which is an incredibly heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who attends a mainstream elementary school for the first time and becomes bullied. Through tweeting, he conveys his empathetic personality and brand as a film director and author who admires kindness and creativity. He constantly tweets about inspiring quotes from authors and students that he encounters and constantly updates his followers on work that he is doing. Furthermore, he promoted the film"Wonder" by providing clips of the film on his Twitter page and behind the scenes interviews with the film's main character "Auggie". He also currently has the film's advertisement set as his Twitter cover page. Overall, Chbosky's tweets serve to portray his empathetic personality and authenticity as film director and author. It also can be seen that he is a strong advocate of the latest student-led uprising against gun violence, which conveys his admiration of this generation through his pinned tweet. A strong rhetorical element that he evokes through his tweets is pathos, which is a common element seen through his admiration of kindness and sympathy, traits also common throughout his work.

After analyzing tweets from multiple composers, I have learned helpful tips for social media promotion that I will incorporate for Project 3.
