2/2 Wix Blog: Advertisement Analysis

An advertisement that has caught my eye this week is Amazon’s claimed super-bowl fourth quarter advertisement. I found out about it from adweek.com, and was able to access it earlier than when it’s supposed to be ran. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO, appears in the ad which portrays Alexa, Amazon’s latest speaking gadget, losing her voice. The commercial is trying to make comical a possible reaction to if Amazon’s Alexa lost her voice. The mode of this advertisement is visual, since it will be aired on public television. The genre of this advertisement is informative because it is trying to inform you of a possible situation where Amazon’s Alexa lost her voice. The media of this advertisement is a super bowl commercial, where people will view it the day of this years super bowl. The intended audience for this advertisement is adults, hopefully reminding them what the Amazon Alexa is and to persuade them to purchase one. The style of this advertisement is comical and imaginative. The point of this advertisement is to persuade viewers to purchase the Amazon Alexa by creating a situation where Amazon’s Alexa lost her voice which is supposed to arouse a sense of irony. This advertisement makes use of Pathos to trigger the emotions of its viewers and impose a sense of irony onto them. Overall, I personally think this advertisement isn’t very effective in persuading its audience to purchase the Amazon Alexa. After watching this advertisement, I have not considered to purchase this device any more than before I had seen it.
