About

Summary
The short-story "The Valiant Soldier" is a narrative about a young man named Johnathan Stewart who is unexpectedly drafted into the Vietnam War in 1969 by the selective service system. He is drafted at the age of nine-teen and is anxious about what the wartime environment will entail. Johnathan, a tall and slender young adult, does not consider himself physically and mentally capable of enduring wartime combat. Although him and his family are completely caught off-guard by this news, his parents urge Johnathan to do what is right and to enact his duty as a draftee and serve in the war. To find out what Johnathan endures throughout this unanticipated stage in his life, read the short-story "The Valiant Soldier" written by Daniel Harkins.
